Polish President Lech Kaczynski, his wife, staff and other passengers and crew died in a plane crash Saturday morning when trying to land in Russia. All 96 passengers abord the Tu-154 airplane were killed. A spokesperson for the Kaczynski administration said that the President’s plane dropped 300 to 400 meters short of the runway in a fourth attempt to land. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has announced that he is personally assuming charge of the investigation of the crash of a Russian-made plane that crashed carrying Polish President Lech Kaczynski and some of Poland’s highest military and civilian leaders.
