Jet Crashes Headed from New York to Guyana

 

A Caribbean Airlines jet heading from New York landed on a wet runway, skidded through a chain-link fence and broke apart just short of a ravine today (Saturday, July 30, 2011) in Guyana. It is reported that several dozen of the 163 people aboard Flight 523 were injured; there are no immediate reports of any deaths. University of Chicago Student Dies in Single Engine Plane Crash

 

A single engine plane departing from the Rantoul Airport crashed early Sunday morning killing a family of three, including a 19-year-old member of the University of Chicago volleyball team. The family from Champaign was reportedly flying to Florida were their daughter was planning on attending training camp for volleyball when their single-engine plane crashed shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday.  The Chicago Tribune said that emergency crews responded immediately, however when they arrived the plane was engulfed in flames and destroyed. … Read more…

Mass Security Breaches Concern Airports

 

Since November, 2001, U.S. airports have experienced more than 25,000 security breaches, an average of around seven breaches per day. USA Today reported that more that 14,000 of those infractions were people who entered “limited access” areas by going through airport doors or passageways without permission. This number also alarmingly includes people going from airport buildings to planes. Family of Seven Killed in Alabama Plane Crash

 

A small plane departing from the Creve Coeur Airport in Maryland Heights, Missouri, crashed just miles short of a runway near an airport in Central Alabama. The St. Louis Times reported that Fred Teutenberg, his wife and five of his children were immediately pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
