Robert A. Clifford, a nationally renowned aviation attorney in Chicago, has been retained by NBC sports chairman Dick Ebersol in connection with the 2004 crash of a private jet in Colorado that killed three people including Ebersol's 14-year-old son.
Clifford is the spokesperson for the family regarding the anticipated release today, Thursday (Feb. 2nd), of the National Transportation Safety Board's transcript of the cockpit voice recorder, investigators' reports, transcripts of interviews and other documents.
Killed in the Nov. 28, 2004 fiery crash were Teddy Ebersol, pilot Luis Alberto Polanco, 50, and flight attendant Warren Richardson, III, 36. Dick Ebersol, 57, and his 21 year-old-son, Charlie, were hospitalized and co-pilot Eric Wicksell was critically injured. Ebersol's wife, actress Susan Saint James, was not on the plane at the time of the crash.
The NTSB has stated it hasn't determined the probable cause of the crash near Montrose in western Colorado. The Canadair, Ltd. aircraft owned by Hop-a-Jet and operated by Air Castle Worldwide Executive Jet Charter, Inc. was destroyed when it departed runway 31 and crashed during takeoff at the Montrose Regional Airport and burst into flames. The 18-seat charter jet with six people on board was headed on a Sunday morning for South Bend Regional Airport in South Bend, Indiana.
